Chief Petty Officer Thomas Sanchez. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.

California Highway Patrol officers Frank Paramo, left, and Craig Williams intervied Jordan Rapp, who was the victim of a hit-and-run, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard on Monday.
Chief Petty Officer Thomas Sanchez was preparing to deploy to Afghanistan when his training for the battlefield helped him save a life at home.

Sanchez was heading home to Camarillo from Naval Base Ventura County on March 23 when he found Jordan Rapp, a professional triathlete, lying in a pool of blood. Authorities said a driver had collided with the bicyclist near CSU Channel Islands, then apparently left him for dead. First aid administered by Sanchez, a Navy Seabee, likely helped save his life, authorities said.
Rapp and his family agree, and when Sanchez stopped by the hospital Monday, they had a chance to thank him one more time before he leaves for the war zone.
“He’s a wonderful human being,” Rapp’s mother, Diane Rapp, said of Sanchez. “I just feel like he’s going to be a part of our family forever.”

Jordan update

talked to Jordan on speaker phone, Jennie and I both said after wards it felt a bit like finally being able to exhale. Hearing someone so close to you is "doing better" is a very different then actually having them tell you themselves "yeah man, morphine is better then the internet, I'm doing better".

His parents are there, his wonderful wife (and an old friend of ours) Jill has been at his side 24/7 and the swelling is starting to come down. It's going to be a long road to full recovery but the key is the "full".

He was full of his typical humor (american spelling just for Jordan) and classically factual, using medical terms Greg House MD would be proud of.

He sounded realistic yet determined about the journey ahead. With Jill and his fantastical brain for company I'm confident he'll be back to full strength in no time.

So good to hear his voice!

news on Jordan Rapp - he's going to be ok but our Rappstar was in a serious bike accident yesterday.

Jordan has a big fan club out there. A lot of people he's made quite the impression on. As a wonderful friend, a very unique individual, a heck of an athlete with an incredible work ethic and the founder and sole contributor to 'Jordanpedia' the wealth of amazing and often very random knowledge floating around in his vast brain. From what type of vacuum cleaner has the best customer satisfaction rating in Delaware to how to chop the most wood in 20mins to the inner workings of his bikes power meter to the specific material and stitch pattern the para shoot the space shuttle landing pod uses.

He's a super quiz show contestant waiting for his chance.

He's a wealth of unique knowledge,

He's one of the nicest and most generous people you will ever meet.

SO the latest update we have is;

from 'the' Kwaz.

Just got back from the hospital. Jordan looks better, even though he was
heavily sedated the entire time I was there. Jill spoke to all the surgeons
earlier this morning [trauma, vascular, orthopedic, ...] and the prognosis
is good for a full recovery. No brain or spinal cord damage. As Andrew
mentioned, today Jordan was able to wiggle his toes and squeeze his hands. A
big highlight is when his sedative level is reduced, Jordan is able to
communicate. He can hear, but cannot open his eyes due to swelling, although
Jill did see him open his right eyelid once today. He is also unable to
speak due to the ventilator and breathing tube he is connected to, but can
nod his head 'Yes' or 'No'. He also communicates by acknowledging with a
squeeze of his left hand. Jill asks questions and when Jordan wants to
construct words, she holds his left hand, goes through the alphabet, and
Jordan squeezes her hand when the correct letter is called. His first few
words today were 'What happened?'. Jill said his next word was 'helmet'.
He asks to speak to people and about others, so he is aware when not
sedated. He asked Jill to take pictures of himself. All good signs, even if
the last request was a bit loopy. His Mom arrived tonight to the hospital
along with his Aunt and Uncle, and Jordan was able to communicate with his
Mom. Jordan's Dad arrives tomorrow evening.
X-Rays were taken on Jordan's right wrist and right knee, since they
remain swollen, but unsure about the results. In the next day or two, the
docs may attempt to take Jordan off the ventilator and remove his breathing
tube, depending how he progresses. His left scapula is not broken, and may
only be fractured. He also has some fractures in his left facial bones. The
laceration on his neck will need more plastic surgery once he is healthy.
  Keep Jordan in your thoughts.

Welcome TEAM KUNSTADT -- DEVINCI

( Ottawa , Ontario MARCH 24th 2010 ) - The Bytown Storm Triathlon Team has joined forces with Kunstadt Sports a local leader in retail sports equipment and Devinci Bicycles, Canada's premier bike manufacturer to form TEAM KUNSTADT -- DEVINCI. "The team format is loosely modeled after cycling teams" says Bytown Storm Head Coach and founder Greg Kealey. "These triathletes have to compete in two or three international events every year if they want to have a chance to be successful at the International level, and that takes a lot of support."
The Bytown Storm team began almost ten years ago with six young triathletes, since then it has grown into one of Canada 's most respected triathlon programs with multiple Provincial and National Champions. Kealey first approached team sponsor Kunstadt Sports with the idea of developing a fully sponsored team two years ago. "We have supported the Bytown Storm for many years and have seen the progress of many of these athletes" says Imad El Ghazal of Kunstadt Sports, "for us it was a natural progression to do what we could to increase our support and help these terrific young athletes to reach their full potential." The two then set criteria for the athletes and long term objectives for the program. "I think both Imad and I are as excited as the athletes to see this program get off the ground, a lot of hard work went into designing this, and the athletes will benefit." say's Greg.
The Bytown Storm program is one of the few programs in the country that is not operated through a Provincial or National Triathlon organization that has athletes competing at the International level. The addition of the TEAM KUNSTADT-DEVINCI program will help our local athletes continue to compete successfully at the National and International level.
